Been rereading Gina's Red String Volumes 1-3 to refresh me so I can read volume 4 right away without forgetting something. Also reading Ultimate Iron Man II, The Skip Beat updates, and just finished an Erstwhile book. I hope to read a few sci fi books too that I have. I'm having trouble with choosing one to start with!

Angel's Coffin ~ In the mail, on it's way to me, so no thoughts yet. Though I do love the art and premise!

Reading in June:

Manga:
  • Blood Alone 5: [++]
  • Boys Over Flowers 36: [++] Kamio totally bailed out of giving me a real ending, though. >_<
  • Cardcaptor Sakura 2: [++]
  • Chibi Vampire 9: [+]
  • Chocolate Cosmos 2: [o] Turns out it's "yet another Ribon manga". Dropped.
  • Hana-Kimi 22: [++]
  • I Hate You More Than Anyone 3-7: [+] I like the characters, but the storytelling is pretty odd. IMHO Hidaka's other works are significantly better in that respect.
  • I'm no Angel!! (Tenshi ja nai!!) 7: [+]
  • Kare Kano 19-21: [++] :heartu: I'm so going to re-read the whole thing this weekend (or however long it takes).
  • Legend 10: [+]
  • Red String 4: [+]
  • Special A 7: [+]
  • Tonari no Guardian 1+2: [o] If you're summoning a medieval knight into modern Japan, he should still act like a medieval knight, and not like a japanese high-schooler. Won't keep.
  • We Were There 9: [+]
Non-Manga:
  • Gaston 11
Novels:
  • Christopher Paolini: Brisingr

Those sound like good books...I love retellings! Who is the author--and who is the author of your sig?

As for me, the books that I have to read are the following

Ravens of Avalon
The Forest House
The Firebrand
Witch Way to Murder
Tanglewreck
Interworld
Keys to the Kingdom
Pride and Predjudice
Dead and Gone
The Wayfar Redemption
Chantel's Quest
Rose Labyrinth
Guardian of the Stones

and who knows what else...

Reading in July:

Manga:
  • Bound XOXOX: [+] o/////o
  • Bride of the Water God 3: [++]
  • Cardboard Angel 1: [+]
  • Detective Conan 1-4: [+]
  • Dojin Work 1+2: [+]
  • Fruits Basket 18: [++]
  • Fushigi Yûgi: Genbu Kaiden 9: [++]
  • Le Portrait de Petite Cossette 1+2: [+] Somewhat different from the anime, and also more coherent. I liked the anime's art and storytelling better, though. The ending, too.
  • Lucky Star 1: [++] Very good, but just like with Azumanga Daioh I like the anime better. The 4-koma format is too restricted for my taste.
  • My Heavenly Hockey Club 8: [+]
  • Nôsatsu Junkie 12: [o]
  • Otomen 2: [o] Boooring. Dropped.
  • Ouran High School Host Club 13: [+]
  • Phantom Dream 2: [+] The beginning of the story seemed a little rough to me, but in the second volume the story flows quite well. Had some interesting twists and turns, too.
  • Rose Hip Rose 3: [+]
  • Sgt. Frog 15: [+]
  • Tsubasa RESERVoir CHRoNiCLE 23: [++]
Non-Manga:
  • Chroniken des schwarzen Mondes (Chronicles of the Black Moon) 14
  • Gaston 12
Artbooks:
  • Gina Biggs: Threads 1 (2nd Edition)

Reading in August:

Manga:
  • 10 Beautiful Assassins 1: [+] Sometimes a little confusing, when the story jumps back and forth in time, but all in all quite entertaining. Cute characters, too.
  • Black Lagoon 8: [+]
  • Cardcaptor Sakura 3: [++] :heartu:
  • Detective Conan 5-8: [+]
  • Gakuen Alice 8: [+]
  • Hana-Kimi 23: [++]
  • Hayate X Blade 4: [+]
  • Hellsing 10: [++]
  • High School Debut 10: [++]
  • I'm no Angel!! (Tenshi ja nai!!) 8: [+]
  • Ikkyu 4: [+]
  • Life Tree's Guardian 2: [+] I like Wormsbecher's style, but she needs to work on her action scenes.
  • Love★Com 13: [++] New territory at last. And of course the volume had to end with a cliffhanger. >_<
  • Negima! Magister Negi Magi 22: [++]
  • Nodame Cantabile 16: [++]
  • Shadow Lady 3: [+]
  • Shishunki Miman 6 (Zoku Shishunki Miman Okotowari 3): [+]
  • Special A 8: [+]
  • The Legend of Zelda - Ocarina of Time 1: [+] Hmmm... dunno. Not having played the game probably prevents me from really getting into this. Still, I'll try the next volume as well.
  • xxxHOLiC 13: [++]

Non-Manga:
  • Monsieur Mardi-Gras Unter Knochen (Monsieur Mardi-Gras Among Bones) 1

I liiive! Sort of. Kind of got hijacked for a year or so, without much time to get involved in outside entertainment. Might as well catch up on what I have read.

Fruits Basket 20-22: I like it, but I really have issues with the english translation. It's sad I have to go hunt down scanlations to get an idea of what the intention of the original dialogue was. I like how most of the character designs have changed as they grow, but really don't care much for Tohru's newer design. She just looks too.... mousy is the best word I can come up with.

Ouron 1-12: Haruhi on her own is still kind of boring to me. If it weren't for the rest of the cast, I wouldn't care for it. Still a good one, imo.

Gunslinger Girl 1-6: Interesting, but doesn't look like there's any way this will end well. I like a good tearjerker, but not when I can see it coming from so far off.

***
Reading in August (Maybe)
Fruits Basket 23 - looks like a wrapup
KimiKiss 1
Star Trek, the Manga (Won it at a con I just attended. Might as well try it)
Time Stranger Kyoko 1-2 (I'm going to give this one a two volume trial. I'm really starting to find issue with so many of Tanemura's character designs looking the same. It's like seeing Maron and Chiaki repeated every single time. The inner sap in me loves the endings of her stories, but the critic in me dislikes how everything ties up far too nicely)

Food and Faith
The Beauty and Courage of Sudan

Since the series has only three volumes, you might just as well read all of it. ;)

  • High School Debut 11: [++]

Reading in October:

Manga:
  • 14R: [+] Neat. Not as good as Aishiteruze Baby, but a lot better than Taranta Ranta.
  • B.O.D.Y. 6: [+] Nice, though not outstanding. Ryunosuke's parents were fun, but as characters they weren't really something unheard of.
  • Best Selection - Yû Watase (a collection of Watase's short stories): [+]
  • Detective Conan 15-18: [+]
  • Kimi ni Todoke 1+2: [++] Kinda like The Wallflower meets Kare Kano.
  • La Corda d'Oro 11: [+] Yet another addition to the harem? At this point?
  • Like Milk and Honey (Datte Suki Nandamon) 1: [+] So far it's better than PxP and Ultra Maniac, but not as good as Spicy Pink (much less Marmalade Boy).
  • Monkey High 1+2: [+] Light reading. Enjoyable, yet not too special.
  • NANA 20: [+]
  • Nôsatsu Junkie 13: [+]
  • Oishinbo a la Carte: Japanese Cuisine: [+] Usually I don't get to see much of Japanese cuisine, so this was a pretty interesting insight. The characters aren't drawn too well, but then this isn't about the characters to begin with. ^_^
  • Oishinbo a la Carte: Ramen & Gyoza: [+] Same as above.
  • Phantom Dream 3: [+] This story is getting better by each volume.
  • Pumpkin Scissors 5: [+]
  • Shishunki Miman 7 (Shishunki Miman Okotowari Kanketsu Hen): [+]
  • The History of the West Wing: [++] Beautiful. :heartu:
  • The Legend of Zelda - Ocarina of Time 2: [o] Won't keep.
  • Tsubasa: Those With Wings 2: [+] Not bad, but I'd say out of Tsubasa, Phantom Dream and Fruits Basket this one is clearly the weakest.

Reading in November:

Manga:
  • An deiner Seite (Koko ni iru yo) 1: [+] Kinda like Kimi ni Todoke meets Train Man minus the heroine's Wallflower-ish aspects. Aimed at a younger target demographic, too.
  • Aria 5
  • B.O.D.Y. 7: [+]
  • Bamboo Blade 2
  • Black Magic: [+]
  • Boys Over Flowers - jewelry box
  • Bride of the Water God 4
  • Cardcaptor Sakura 4
  • Cosplay Animal (Costume Play Animal) 1: [+] Surprisingly enough the "main" story consisted of only two chapters (i.e. less than half of the book). And I somehow wish Mayumi Yokoyama had drawn it. Other than that it was enjoyable enough.
  • D.N.Angel 13: [+]
  • Detective Conan 19-20: [+]
  • Disappearance Diary: [++] Really good! And despite the serious subject it's still kinda uplifting. I liked the visual style, too. Made me want to read more of Azuma's works.
  • Dojin Work 4
  • High School Debut 12
  • Love★Com 15
  • Maid Sama! 2: [+] The relation between the two main characters reminds me quite a bit of Special A.
  • Negima! Magister Negi Magi 23
  • Nightschool 2: [++] I hate cliffhangers. Hate 'em. Hate 'em! HATE 'EM! :evil: I'm so gonna get you for this, Svetlana! You hear me?! *shakes fist*
  • Oishinbo a la Carte: Sake: [+]
  • Skip Beat! 19
  • Soul Eater 1: [+] Apparently the anime followed this manga rather closely (as far as the first volume is concerned). I liked Maka's character design better in the anime, though.
  • Special A 9: [+] Anyone who feels like complaining about Reika's ignorance: try reading this.
  • Sunshine Sketch 3: [+]
  • Tears of a Lamb 6: [+]
  • The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya 2-4: [+]
  • Tsubasa RESERVoir CHRoNiCLE 25
  • Tsubasa: Those With Wings 3: [+]
  • V.B. Rose 6
  • W Juliet 13
  • Yotsuba&! 7

Non-Manga:
  • Gaston 14
